Ryser is a mobile app created by me and four other students in the Network For Teaching Entrepreneurship's entrepreneurial Start-Up Tech Summer program. My role was team president.
I later became the New York Metro NFTE Fellow Summer of 2019, where I mentored students and aided in the planning and execution of the BizTech program.
I am currently still involved with NFTE through its alumni network, as I continue to participate and attend several events held by NFTE in NYC.
1 \\ Branding
We decided on the name "Ryser" after going through a list of words associated with health and bettering oneself. We landed on the word, "rise," and played around with different variations until we decided on "Ryser."
For the logo, we went with a heartbeat-esque design to stay consistent with the elevated health focus. The color blue is associated with calm, focus, and a sense of tranquility. At the same time, the color orange conveys enthusiasm and excitement, which we want teens to feel when using the app's physical activity challenges.
2 \\ User Research
According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, the main problems young adults face these days is that over 90% of them don’t exercise regularly, 32% lack social interaction, and over 75% are unaware about the nutritional value in foods.
To further support those statistics we surveyed over 300 young adults in New York City within our target market and found that 81% don’t get enough exercise. 66% are antisocial. And 73% have an unhealthy diet. And this is all by their own admission.
